Exciting news

Mario Draghis report

“Europe is stuck in a static industrial structure with few new companies rising up to disrupt existing industries or develop new growth engines. In fact, there is no EU company with a market capitalisation over EUR 100 billion that has been set up from scratch in the last fifty years, while all six US companies with a valuation above EUR 1 trillion have been created in this period.”

Mario Draghis report said it well. We need new, young, innovative companies to come out of Europe and we need it fast. We’re loosing the most ambitious talent to the US, because there they have a better chance of changing the world on a societal level.

We need more changemakers and we need to give them resources to succeed.

OpenAI releases their O1 model

The new O1 model is supposed to be much better at reasoning compared to the previous models.

From my (very limited) testing, it is much better at solving complex problems, but it comes at the expense of its “human likeness”. I feel its easier to catch that a machine wrote the text even though the answer is better.

This being said, this is only the “preview” of the model and it does not support e.g. pictures or files for now.

If you have ChatGPT Plus, you can start experimenting on the model today!

YC is moving to 4 batches per year

Gary Tan (the CEO of Y combinator) announced on X (aka Twitter) that they will be moving to a model where they will do 4 batches per year instead of the previous 2.

Each batch will be about half the size of the previous ones.

This might be the best time ever to apply to YC. Its time to get more Finnish YC companies funded!!!
